H-1B Visas for Systems Analysts

The technology industry in the United States is well-known for its innovation and profits. Companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have been leaders in developing new technologies and have achieved great success in recent years. Systems analysts are a crucial part of this industry as they design, maintain and implement improvements to the computer systems that help these companies thrive.

Just like any growing industry, technology companies in the United States are always looking for professional skilled workers. To meet this need, they frequently utilize the H-1B visa program, which allows them to hire foreign workers for specialized positions in the technology sector on a temporary basis. By using the H-1B visa program, these companies can fill important skill gaps and stay competitive in the global economy.

What is Required to Obtain an H-1B Visa?

The H-1B visa is a type of visa that can be used for various positions that require at least a U.S. bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent in a specific specialty It enables employers to request the services of highly educated foreign professionals in specialized fields such as:

  • Mathematics

  • Engineering

  • Technology

  • Medical sciences

Systems analysts with U.S. bachelor’s degrees or the foreign equivalent meet the educational requirement of the H-1B program. However, there are other requirements these applicants will need to meet, including:

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in systems analysis. Additionally, the job must require at least a U.S. bachelor’s degree or the foreign equivalent that is expected for similar roles in the industry.

  • The job duties require specialized professional skills and expertise in the analysis of computer systems.

With these requirements met, systems analysts can move forward with pursuing their application. With that in mind, it is important to remember that applying for an H-1B visa as a systems analyst is a process that requires a significant investment of time and effort.

What Should You Know About the H-1B Visa Application?

Obviously, the opportunity to work in the United States as a systems analyst could be very enticing and even lucrative for you and your family. On top of these benefits, working as a systems analyst in the United States would put you on the cutting edge of technology, allowing you to work with some of the best and brightest minds in the world. That said, the application process for the H-1B visa can be challenging.  So, it is important to keep the following in mind as you move forward with the process:

  • You must have a job offer from a U.S. employer that will sponsor your H-1B visa.

  • If the number of petitions exceeds the annual cap of 65,000 visas and the additional 20,000 “advanced degree exemption” cap, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) conducts a random lottery to select the petitions that will move forward for processing.

  • If your petition is selected in the lottery, then USCIS will review it, verify the information, and make a decision. This process can take several months[KL1] . There is a premium processing option which can expedite this process. This costs an additional filing fee of $2500.00 to have a final decision within 15 business days of filing, unless a request for additional evidence is issued.

  • If outside the U.S. you will need to secure an H-1B visa stamp/interview first, then enter the U.S. to begin working for the employer. If within the U.S. and the change of status is approved, you may begin employment with the employer if an I-94 has been issued on the bottom of the I-797 approval notice. The visa typically grants a period of three years initially, with the possibility of extension.
